CAPPOQUIN 'A' ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS AFTER PLAYOFF!!Cappoquin A 6-3 Youghal Utd..... After a thrilling Playoff game in Cappoquin Astro on Monday night the home team emerged victorious and claimed the league title with a hard earned victory and after a fourteen week season can claim to be Leisure Leagues Ladies 6 a Side Champions for the first time. The game started with both sides a little nervy and Youghals ace markswomen Kerri Hancock pounced on a bad throw out to score the opening goal after 3minutes and set the tone for the evening, this should have settled Youghal as they were in the ascendancy but the oppossite happened as Cappoquin fought for every ball and were back on level terms 2mins later as Player of the Match Ruth Geoghan scored a fine goal, a minute later and Amy Jordan put the home team in the lead a lead they wouldnt let go and ran out comfortable winners in the end. Ruth Geoghan rattled the net on 10mins with a super shot giving Kate Gilman in the Youghal goal no chance. Rachel Whelan added a fourth goal 2mins later to put Cappoquin in a conmanding position 4-1 up. Kerri Hancock dragged her team back into the contest with a powerful strike that Cappoquin keeper Viv Uniacke couldnt keep out of the net just before the half time whistle to make it 4-2.
In the second half Youghal came out determined to play better then the first and they started rightly with Elaine Walsh and Liz Burke getting stuck into the game but disaster struck when a mistake by keeper Kate Gilman increased Cappoquins lead as a Ruth Geoghan shot slipped thru her fingers and into the net for 5-2. Youghal now had an up hill battle on there hands and Capooquin played the ball around controlling the pace of the game and restricting Youghal to long range shots. The final nail in the coffin was Ruths fourth goal to seal the win and cap off a Player of the Match performance but Kerri Hancock wasnt to be out done and scored her third goal but the damaged was done and the time was up and Cappoquin were deserving winners of a wonderful game. Well done to both teams on a great game and best o luck in both your 11 a Side Leagues which have now started.
